BLUE LIZARD SPORTS

Apart from being a leading brand of sunscreen, it’s also our “pro-shop” at Changi Sailing Club. But it’s also a high-speed trainer and an interesting adventure sailing program. But most of all, we’re activity based.

Blue Lizard alias ‘the blue bus’ is an older Nacra 5.8 that’s been upgraded with a new Square-head mainsail that has really changed the way she performs and goes a long way to showing just how much development work Nacra Europe have put into the range.

Blue Lizard Sunscreen is perhaps the leading brand of dermatological sunscreen. Apply it once in the morning on dry skin and you’re good for the whole day. We tested it extensively on ourselves and we do spend a lot of time in the sun! The results were way better than we expected and throughout the whole racing season, we haven’t suffered a sunburn yet.

THE REAL DEAL

Over the last 20 years of cat sailing in Southeast Asia, we can’t tell you how many sunscreens we’ve tried! Most wash off or are so greasy that you don’t bother.

Well dermatological lotions are a lot different and especially this one! it comes from the land with the biggest ozone hole above it - that’s given them a head start on the rest of the world as far as the necessity for sunscreening goes!

It’s odourless, so you can wear it and no one will ever know. If you apply it on dry skin in the morning, it’ll still be on in the afternoon no matter how many dunkings you get. Officially it was tested to 240 times in a day but the most times I’ve been dunked off a cat is only 5!

As is usual for us, we test all our gear our before we support it in any way. Like the Nacra 5.0, we sailed it to Phuket and back - if that’s not standing behind something... And so it was that Alice said I should try Blue Lizard. So I did with some skepticism. Months later, I had to admit, since using it I’ve never suffered sun burn... that’s a very good thing. I do have fair skin and have already had a sun spot or two removed. So Blue Lizard is a winner to me. I put it on once in the morning and I’m good to go all day without having to reapply at all! Best bit is, no one knows you’re wearing it.

BLUE LIZARD ADVENTURES

With 1000 km’s of white sand beaches lying just to the North, well it seems like a shame not to ‘explore’. We’ve done it numerous times, Singapore - Rawa Island/Tioman/Cibu... But we didn’t just jump on the cat and go, it does take a bit of preparation plus there’s the little factor like it’s an international outing.

Since the early days, we’ve found a lot more stunning locations on the East Coast of Malaysia and the Adventure Program will see the Blue Bus makes it way to just some of them.

Adventure sailing is one reason we enjoy cats so much. Put the gear on the tramp and off you go. From the experience we gained from sailing a 5.0 to Phuket we’ll tell you, the bigger the platform the better! So this year I’d say it will be the 580 and a few Nacra 20’s that head north.
